Love is in the Air: An AIDS Awareness Series

April 21, April 28, and May 5, 2004, 1:15 PM - 2:00 PM

This Spring, the Chancellor's Advisory Committee on HIV/AIDS presents Love is in the Air, a series of three short, engaging programs designed to raise awareness of HIV/AIDS. Each event takes place from 1:15-2:00, right after the Wednesday Nooner concert.

"All You Wanted to Know About Safe Sex"
April 21, Commons Terrace Room C

Buddy Aiken of the Inland AIDS Project (IAP) presents a practical guide to safe sex. Many of us talk about safe sex, but how many of us really know what it is? Which specific practices are risky and which are less so? How can you lower your risk? Come find out!

"AIDS in the Media: The Rise and Fall of a Deadly Epidemic"
April 28, Commons Terrace Room

This program uses video clips to present images of AIDS in the popular media. How do such images help us understand HIV/AIDS and how do they distort the truth about HIV/AIDS? A discussion follows in which we explore these and other questions.

"When AIDS Hits Home: Myths About HIV/AIDS"
May 5, International Lounge

Dr. Steven Larson, an AIDS expert, discusses what it is like to live with AIDS. What are the treatment options once AIDS is diagnosed, and what are some of the challenges of available AIDS treatments? Prevention is important, because there is still no cure.
